Luke 10:26 -- Dissonance
Luke 10-25-26 reads:
"And Behold, a lawyer stood up and put him to the test, saying, "Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?" 26And He said to him, "What is written in the law? How does it read to you?"
Jesus goes on to answer the question (and the lawyer ask another, and Jesus answer with a parable). I wanted to focus on 10:26. In Jesus's initial response, he seems to understand that the lawyer may read the verse differently than Jesus does; Jesus asks, "How does it read to you?" Of course Jesus is the authority, but He seems to understand that the laywer's understanding may differ from His ("...How does it read to you?").
This happens in my every day life. I think it's important to keep in mind Jesus's question, and Proverbs 27:17:
"As iron sharpens iron, So one person sharpens another. "
I've recently had to change churches (I moved to a new city). I "church shopped"; i.e, checked out a few of them, and found one I liked. This church does not agree with all my views on things. Rather than find a new church, that agrees with every single view-point I have, I think I should stick around, and let iron sharpen iron. Maybe the Church and I will come out sharper and more refined.
